Elaine M Helgerson

McFarland- Elaine M. Helgerson, age 72, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Meriter Hospital. Elaine was born on May 12, 1936 a daughter of the late Aden and Meta (Manthey) Schatzke. She graduated from Westfield High School and was married to Edwin Helgerson on October 29, 1955 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neshkoro, Wisconsin. Elaine worked for many years at the Dane County Criminal and Traffic Court. She was an active member of McFarland Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 534 in McFarland. Elaine worked as a poll worker in McFarland and at the McFarland Food Pantry. She especially liked to travel and to go out for Friday fish with her many friends. Elaine enjoyed her friends and the time she spent at the cottage on Lawrence Lake.   Elaine is survived by: her son, Keith (Maxine) Helgerson, Madison; 4 grandchildren, Robert, Richard, Christopher, and Tammy; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; 2 sisters, Eleanor Paulson, Madison; and Arlene (Harve) Leppin, Fairwater, WI; and many nieces and nephews.   In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Ed on October 8, 2000; and by 5 brothers, Harley, Marvin, Kenneth, Kermit, and Harvey.   A funeral celebrating the life of Elaine will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 11:00 am at McFarland Lutheran Church, 5529 Marsh Rd, McFarland. The Reverend Jeffrey Tomberlin will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens in Madison. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 am until time of service.
