Elaine Vick

Stoughton- Elaine Ruth Vick, days short of 95, passed peacefully in her sleep on November 12, 2020, in her apartment home, which she shared with her husband Homer Vick at Milestone Assisted Living in Stoughton, WI. Elaine was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Elise Christine Betz Lippert and Walter Christopher Lippert on November 20, 1925. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved granddaughter, Christina Lynn Finley. She is celebrated and survived by her husband, her children and their spouses Sherry( Vick) and Randal Feig, Sue (Vick) and Mark Finley, and Alan and Linda (Blackmon) Vick. Grandchildren, greatly enriched by her love, include Dan (Marce) Feig, Scott (Monica) Finley, Todd (Taylor Brown) Finley, and Aaron (Masha) Finley, Lindsey (Nate) Henry, Laura (Jack) Stewart, and Carrie (Tim) Highman. Great grandchildren, whom she cherished, are Sofia, Ian, Alex Feig; Lucas, Mathias, Charlotte Finley; Makeo, Leilani, Maverick, Ka’Lei Henry. Elaine’s precious nieces and nephews also celebrate her life and love.

Valedictorian, lovely, and the only female in his East High School math class, Elaine impressed Homer. He pursued her and they married March 2, 1946, in Madison. Homer, a Navy Ensign was called to duty and Elaine pursued her nursing degree at UW Madison. They joked that while Elaine worked away and earned her nursing degree, Homer toured the world.

A talented woman, Elaine loved music, playing piano and singing, as well as drawing, painting, and baking. An ardent gardener, Elaine treated her family with fresh produce throughout the summer. Beautiful bouquets, which she arranged with blooms taken from her flower beds, graced her home spring through fall.

Elaine and Homer expanded their family’s’ horizons on bi-yearly camping adventures, which included most of the United States. To her family’s delight, Elaine maintained her cooking prowess even on a camp stove. As a couple, they extended their adventures into several other countries.

Elaine and Homer revealed their love for their Lord Jesus through their multifaceted generosity, exemplified by two ‘adopted’ families who celebrate the joyful love they shared with Elaine.  First in 1968, via a High School Foreign Exchange Program, Lucia Aguirre from Quito, Ecuador lived with them her senior year. Thereafter, Elaine’s affection extended to Lucia's children and grandchildren, who currently live in Switzerland. Second, in the 1970’s, a young couple from Elaine and Homer’s church, Bob and Karen Stanforth, were included as family which subsequently extended to their children, and grandchildren.

Elaine’s family was her treasure. She became Homer’s personal nurse when he returned home from the hospital after his brain injury. Elaine lavished her loved ones, including her countless precious friends, with sumptuous feasts, desserts, birthday cakes, and celebrations. Her hospitality produced her infamous ‘magic freezer’ from which she spontaneously produced full meals for those who had spent time enjoying the lake in front of their home. Elaine had a gracious caring spirit, which enriched the souls of her extensive Christian community, family, and friends.

The Vick family extends their gratitude to Agrace nurses and staff as well as those serving at Milestone Assisted Living for their attentive and kind care for Elaine.
