MADISON--Elbert Louis ""EL"" Brooks, age 82 passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at home. EL was born in Wabbeseka, AR on July 13, 1928 to the late Louis and Sarah (Turdiman) Brooks. Elbert was educated in the Wabbeseka School System. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Wabbeseka, where he accepted Christ at an early age. EL later relocated to Chicago, IL where he met and wed Ethel Walker. He worked at National Baking in Chicago until his retirement. They later moved to Madison.

EL was a dedicated husband, and a loving, devoted father who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Ethel; sons, Charles (Florita) Walker, Elbert Walker, Jimmy (Ann) Brooks all of Madison, Eddie (Pamela) Brooks of Chicago, and Darnell Brooks of Madison; daughters: Chiquita Walker of Madison, Cindy (the late Willie) Gilbert of Chicago, Donna Brooks of Madison, Ethel Fee (Pierre) Franklin of Charlotte, NC, Felicia, Janet, and Janice Brooks all of Madison; 49 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Aretta Brooks, Dollin Turner, and Lillie D Smith, Wardell (Felicia) Brooks, Theodis and Willie Brooks all of Pine Bluff, AR; sisters-in-law, Augusta Staples, Gwendolyn Walker, Sandra Taylor all of Madison, and Betty Collier of Memphis, TN; brother-in-law, Nathaniel Walker of Madison. EL is further survived by a host of extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Sarah; son-in-law, Willie Gilbert; brothers, Tommy Lee Brooks and Eddie Ross; and sister, Maylee Johnson. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Now Faith Ministries, 1711 Thierer Road, Madison with Pastor Eric Maiden officiating. Family will greet friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at church.
