Madison -- Eleanor E. Griffith, age 90, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the HospiceCare Facility with her loving family by her side. Â She was born on May 2, 19 19 in LaCrosse, the daughter of Thomas and Hazel (Madden) Campion. Â Eleanor was raised in and has been a lifelong resident of Madison . Â She was a graduate of West High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison . Â Eleanor and Frederick J. Griffith were united in marriage in Marquette , Wisconsin , prior to his departure to WWII. Â Upon Frederick 's return from his enlistment in the United States Army, together they raised three sons. Â Eleanor was very active in the community and generously gave her time as a volunteer for numerous organizations. Â In her spare time she loved visiting the Griffith family homestead in Marquette , where she and her family had many happy memories. Eleanor treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Â She was a very independent and social woman. She loved to travel the world and enjoyed her coffee visits with her friends every Friday. Â Eleanor is survived by her two sons; Thomas (Gretchen) Griffith and David Griffith, a daughter-in-law; Margie Griffith, five grandchildren; Todd (Andie) Griffith, Brian (Anna) Griffith, Krisiti (Shawn) Howard, Elizabeth Griffith and Matthew Griffith, six great grandchildren; Alex, Caroline, Jack, Thomas, Nora and Lindsay, and a niece; Elizabeth Jenny. Â She is also survived by other loving family and a close knit group of very dear friends. Â Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frederick ""Griff"", a son, Frederick ""Rick"" and a sister, Jean Pollard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Dr. , on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor Kenneth Fiedler officiating. Â A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Â Burial will follow at the Village of Marquette Cemetery in Marquette , WI . Â In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Eleanor to the HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway , Madison , WI 53711 . Â The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the HospiceCare Facility for the special attention and care given to Eleanor and our family.
