Eleanor K. Moffat

September 2, 1935 — March 5, 2025

Eleanor “Kay” Moffat, dearly loved wife mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025 at Hospice of the Valley in Glendale, AZ, surrounded by loving family. Kay was born on September 2, 1935 in Green City, MO, the daughter of Roy and Ann Luyster.

After graduating as valedictorian from Monroe City High School, Kay attended Central College in Fayetteville, MO. There she met and began a life-long journey with Ed. They were married on August 28, 1955, and that fall, moved to Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois where Ed served two years in the US Navy. Following his service, Ed and Kay returned to St. Louis where they raised their three daughters, Cheryl, Cindy and Christine.

In 1974, Ed and Kay’s family relocated to Madison, WI for Ed’s job. Kay worked during their years in Madison at the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation and then for many years at UW Hospitals in the Clinical Labs Dept.

Kay loved camping with family and friends, travels with Ed, their neighborhood pool in St. Louis where the girls learned to swim, knitting, cooking with Ed, sewing/quilting, Thirsty Thursdays on the pier at the Lighthouse Bay watching the sunset, sailboat and pontoon rides on Lake Mendota, Halloween, watching all things Wisconsin Badgers and Arizona Cardinals, and talking sports with her son-in-law, Kevin.

Kay dearly loved her grandchildren: Colin, Jackson, Amanda, and Kelsey. Ed and Kay enjoyed attending their grandkids’ many sporting events, hosting the annual fall family camping trip (to include a family breakfast in their RV, pumpkin decorating for the grandkids, fireside s’mores, and Ed’s perfected scavenger hunt and compass-learning challenges) and many, many birthday and milestone gatherings. Kay took pride in knitting more than 20 personalized Christmas stockings over the years for everyone in the family, now treasured keepsakes for us all.

When Ed, Kay, and their adored pooch, Wiggles, relocated to Peoria, AZ in 2015, they thoroughly enjoyed sharing more time with Chris and Kevin, and having WI and MN family visit to enjoy the warmth and sunshine with them.

After Ed passed in 2019, Kay moved to a senior living community, Orchard Point at Terraza. There she made many friends and enjoyed fun activities (bell choir, knitting club, book club, cardio drumming, exercise class, special Orchard Point activities, and many weekly games of Rummikub and Mahjong).

Kay is survived by her children: Cheryl (Skip) Wright, Cindy (Dave) Allen, Chris (Kevin) Ronson; grandchildren: Colin (Kayla) Wright, Jackson Wright, Amanda (Dan) Rodriguez, and Kelsey (Chad) Mulder; and 6 great-grandhilcren: Loretta, Wells, and Delilah Mulder, and Lily, Ellis, and Walter Wright. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Edward Moffat, and her parents, Roy and Ann Luyster.

When I'm Gone

When I come to the end of my journey

And I travel my last weary mile

Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned

And remember only the smile

Forget unkind words I have spoken

Remember some good I have done

Forget that I ever had heartache

And remember I've had loads of fun

Forget that I've stumbled and blundered

And sometimes fell by the way

Remember I have fought some hard battles

And won, ere the close of the day

Then forget to grieve for my going

I would not have you sad for a day

But in summer just gather some flowers

And remember the place where I lay

And come in the shade of evening

When the sun paints the sky in the west

Stand for a few moments beside me

And remember only my best.
