Stoughton - Elizabeth Louise Benisch "Betty", 85, passed away Friday, January 11th at Stoughton Hospital surrounded by family. Betty was born in Mauston on January 16, 1933 to the late Lester and Margaret Barr.
Betty was a graduate of Mauston High School. She came to Stoughton in 1967 with her late husband of 50 years, LaVerne Benisch.
Betty and LaVerne could be found every Sunday at the Badger Midget Races up until his passing. Betty then became an avid fan of NASCAR and followed her favorite driver, Jeff Gordon faithfully. She also followed Xfinity and truck racing. Betty loved her pet cockatiels and spent her free time training and talking to them. She loved travel and her favorite trips included visiting family in California and touring the West Coast. Betty was a longtime resident of Stoughton. Working as a waitress at many local restaurants she was very popular and made many friends throughout the community. Together with her companion, Bob, they enjoyed eating at many local restaurants.
Betty is survived by her 3 sons, Dennis Anderson of Stoughton, Daniel Anderson of Reedsburg, Donald (Sonja) Anderson of Folsom, CA; her 3 daughters, Denise (fiancé, Dan Hanson) Anderson of Stoughton, Linda (Steve) Lashock of Blanchardville and Vicki (Chris) Wegner of Stoughton. Her greatest joy were her 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also among Betty's survivors are her two brothers Donald Barr of La Farge and James (Zoe) Barr of Janesville; and her companion, Robert "Bob" Veland.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect Street, Stoughton. Burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Park.
