Elizabeth G. Bestor, 87, Monroe, died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe.
She was born Feb. 12, 1930 to Frank and Mary Frances (Bell) Greer in Monmouth, Illinois. She was raised on the family farm outside Aledo, Illinois, where she graduated high school in 1948. She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois and graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa in 1952.
Elizabeth married David R. Bestor on May 25, 1955 in Davenport, Iowa. They lived in numerous towns in Iowa and Illinois before settling in Madison, Wisconsin where they raised their family. After her children were older, she taught Montessori preschool and later was the administrator of a daycare.
Elizabeth loved being a mother, cooking for her family, gardening and her pets. She was known for her sense of humor, her funny stories and her hearty laugh.
Survivors include daughters Susan (Patrick) Stewart of Rockford, Illinois and Mary Jane (John) Grenzow, Monroe; grandchildren Andrew and Shelbie Bestor, Catherine and Bennett Stewart, and Elizabeth, Sally and Christina Grenzow; great-grandchildren Jet and Leo Bestor; sisters Marjory Lichtenberg, Monroe, and Dorothy Wiggs, Fort Wayne, Indiana; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband David and sons J. Andrew Bestor and Lindsey Bestor.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, with Pastor Randy Booth of Monroe United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, 1 Speedway Road, Madison.
