Elizabeth Emmerich

Elizabeth H. “Betsy” Emmerich of Sun Prairie, WI joined her Lord and Savior on November 22, 2024. Betsy was born on October 13, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI to Herbert and Marie Steffen, and was baptized on December 7, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. Betsy attended Immanuel Lutheran School and was confirmed on April 3, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended Milwaukee Lutheran High School, graduating in 1959.

Betsy married her husband, Michael, on September 9, 1961. Moving to Sun Prairie in 1968, the family joined Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Betsy worshiped as part of Bethlehem’s family for 56 years until her death. She served on altar guild for many years and enjoyed growing in faith through Bible study.

In her free time, Betsy enjoyed sewing, quilting, traveling and gardening. She also cherished time with family and spending time in northern Wisconsin. Betsy was preceded in death by many loved ones, including her parents, Herbert and Marie Steffen, a sister, Judy (Robert Weisel), nieces Liz (Pete) Sockness and Laurie Malone, and her husband, Mike. Betsy is survived by her dear sister, Barbara Klintman, daughter, Jane (Scott) Gobeli, son, Jon (Esther) Emmerich, grandchildren Will Gobeli, Molly (Woody) Lucas, Ruben Emmerich, and Ruby Koh), great grandchildren (Eleanor, David and Judah Lucas), nieces Amy (Dan) Rice and Carrie (Jeff) Hoppman, nephews Jim and Brad (Loretta) Endres, great nieces Kristen (Mitch) Willert and Samantha Sockness, great nephews John Hoppman and Bobby Malone, and many beloved extended family members, treasured friends and dear neighbors.

The family would like to thank the doctors of the UW Health Cardiovascular team, in particular Dr. Peter Marogil and nurses Taylor and Anthony, Doctors Matthews and Talbot of the Palliative Care Team, and ER nurse Emme for their compassionate care and exceptional bedside manner.

Visitation for Betsy will be held Saturday, November 30 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 300 Broadway Dr., Sun Prairie, WI from 9:30 to 11:00 am with a funeral service at 11:00 am. Guests are invited to attend a luncheon immediately following the service to celebrate Betsy’s life. Burial will take place at the Wauwatosa Cemetery, 2485 Wauwatosa Ave., Wauwatosa, WI at 2:45 pm. Anyone planning to attend Betsy’s graveside service should plan to depart the luncheon for the cemetery by 1:15 pm.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie, WI, Lutheran Hour Ministries, or a charity of your choice.
