Elizabeth "Betty" Mcconnell

Elizabeth A. (Betty) McConnell, age 98 passed away peacefully at the Skaalen Home in Stoughton on Wednesday, March 11th just shy of her 99th birthday.

She was born Elizabeth Ann Egner on March 30, 1921 in the town of Dunn to Ole and Mabel (Krogfoss) Egner. Betty graduated from Stoughton High School.   After graduating from high school, she started a 38-year career at Oscar Mayer before her retirement in 1979.

She married Edwin O. McConnell on November 14,1948.  Together they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his passing in 2004. She was a devoted wife, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt and friend. She was involved in church activities; she loved playing cribbage, bridge, doing crossword puzzles, word jumbles, and the cryptoquote found in the State Journal Paper daily.

She had a knack for making the best lefse, divinity (sea foam) and old-fashioned fry cakes. Her door was always open with a dessert to share.

She is survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Eleanor Geiger, California: Jeanette Egner, McFarland, and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin, brothers Willard and Howard and her parents.

The family is deeply appreciative for the kindness and care provided over the years to Betty at Skaalen Nursing Home and the wonderful team at Agrace Hospice Care.    .

Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 am on Monday, March 16, 2020 at McFarland Lutheran Church, 5529 Marsh Rd, McFarland, WI 53558, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am.  Betty will be brought to her final place of rest Lower McFarland Cemetery following services. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in Betty’s name to Agrace Hospice Care, Skaalen Nursing Home or McFarland Lutheran Church.
