Emarine F. Cashin passed to eternal rest November 16th, 2022, at the age of 94 at Brookdale Senior Living in Middleton Wi. Catholic funeral mass held at Blessed Sacrament Church November 21, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery, both in Madison.
Emarine was born January 9, 1928, in Rugby ND. She grew up on a family farm outside of Rugby, attending am early one room schoolhouse near the farm. From there high school in Fargo and Rugby, then college at St. Scholastica (Duluth, MN), graduating with a degree in business education.
She taught initially in Shiocton WI and Livingston WI where she would meet her husband William J Cashin (d: Dec 9, 1987). They were married June 30, 1951, in Rugby.
Emarine was preceded in death by her husband William, daughter Ann, sisters Carolyn, Irene and Delores, and her loving parents Nick and Johanna. She is survived by her children Norah J Cashin (Madison, WI) (Ben (Stephanie); Grandson: Louis Cashin (Haley Dupont); William G Cashin (Jan) (Lake Tomahawk, WI) (Daniel/Matthew (Connie)/Michael); Paul J Cashin (Jane) (Edina, MN) (Lucy (Jake) Gardiner)/Samuel); Mary P. Glaser (Garry) (Carmel Valley, CA) (Molly (Richard) Forno/Taylor (Michael) Montante/Jenna/Jake); John T Cashin (Amy) (Verona WI) (Riley (Molly)/Andrew). Emarine is loved and remembered by her children as well as 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
After settling in Madison in the mid-1960s, husband Bill was diagnosed with MS. Emarine moved into the roles of caregiver, breadwinner, and family leader. Emarine’s driving goal was to maintain a sense of normalcy for her family. She regained her teaching credentials and began full-time work.
Emarine taught at Blessed Sacrament School for 20 years and was proud of the influence she had on young people’s lives. Through her dedication she instilled the importance of hard work and higher education on her own family, and all five of her children went to college. Even with all that work, Emarine planned many family vacations, and the family was always ready for another adventure. Her remarkable energy and devotion to her family without a doubt stands as her legacy.
Her husband Bill passed away after his long illness in 1987, and Emarine decided on a significant life change at age 60. She retired from teaching and moved to Minnesota to be closer to three of her children living there. She bought a home in suburban Edina and spent her retirement welcoming more grandchildren, making friends, having fun with family, and going on more travel adventures, for 23 years in MN.
Emarine’s next challenge was a slipping memory and losing the ability to fend for herself, with the resulting need for ever expanding support services. As she went through that final phase of life, she was able to maintain her grace and faith, and was a favorite with the care teams. Despite a strong instinct for self-reliance, Emarine was courteous, patient, and thankful to her caregivers until the end. The family sends our gratitude to the staff at Brookdale in Middleton and Agrace Hospice Care for their loving service to her. The family requests that any gifts or remembrances be directed to Brookdale Senior Living 6916 Century Ave. Middleton WI 53562 in remembrance of Emarine Cashin.
