Emily Winer

Madison - Emily Stella Winer was born November 22, 1925 in Princeton, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Hyman and Clara (Feldman) Swed and the sister of Frieda and Morris. Growing up in Princeton, she worked at her family's general store, spent summers at Green Lake and visiting her favorite Aunt Bertie and Uncle Henry. Emily attended the University of Wisconsin, was an administrative assistant in a Chicago, IL engineering firm and later moved to Madison and wed Martin Winer. Widowed at a young age, Emily devoted herself to the well-being, growth and education of her three small sons. Once her boys were in college, Emily began a career assisting hundreds of medical students at the UW-Madison Medical School. After retirement, she spent many years volunteering at Oakwood, and was active in the Marbella Condominium Home Owners Association.

Emily was a true and giving friend. Throughout her life she made countless close friends beginning in her Princeton grade school, and continuing through all stages of her life, including members of Temple Beth El, work colleagues at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, neighbors at the Marbella Condominiums, and fellow civic volunteers. These important relationships were maintained and strengthened throughout her life.

Always interested in the world she lived in, Emily was an avid follower of politics and was a lifelong Democrat. She was an enthusiastic reader of fiction, non-fiction, newspapers and magazines. She took great joy in clothes that fit her classic personal style. Emily's condo was always immaculate, and reflected her sense of design and aesthetics. For many years, Emily was a fan of Badger sports and, of course, the Packers.

Emily was pre-deceased by her parents, both of her siblings and her husband.

Emily is survived by her three sons: Jeff (Sue), Madison; Paul, Mt Carroll, IL; and David (Lova),

Plano, TX and her two grandchildren: Erik (Celeste), Charlotte, NC; and Mike, Chandler, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
