MADISON - Emma Buehlman, age 103, of Madison passed away on May 5, 2011 at Oregon Manor Nursing Home in Oregon Wisconsin. She was born in Arena, Wisconsin, on March 25, 1908.
Emma was the daughter of Adolph Buehlman and Wilhelmina Katherine Herbort. Emma's Father, Adolph Buehlman who was a Swiss Cheese maker, emigrated from Switzerland in 1893 and Wilhelmina (Minnie) K. Herbort emigrated from Germany in 1886, with her family.
Emma resided on the Buehlman farm and received her elementary and high school education in Arena. She graduated from Arena High School in 1927.
Emma moved to Madison, in 1943 after the death of her only remaining parent (Adolph Buehlman) and lived there with her sister and brother-in-law (Bertha and Charles Doran). She remained at that residence in Madison until September, 2001, when she entered Sienna Crest assisted living in Oregon Wisconsin. She moved to Oregon Manor Nursing Home in May 2005.
Emma attended Madison Business College, and then began her career at the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles. She was then employed by the Bureau of Visual Instruction. Emma's last position was with the Department of the Army, ROTC, at the University of Wisconsin where she retired at the age of seventy.
Emma was truly an ""Angel on Earth"", and everyone who was ever fortunate enough to know her, loved her for her pleasant, patient, kind, loving, and sweet manner. She never spoke an unkind word to anyone or about anyone. She loved ALL cats passionately, and was happiest when she was cuddling one on her lap. Prior to, and subsequent to, her retirement, Emma and her sisters loved traveling and had many pleasant journeys together. At times Jane Schaub, Dorann Holl (Schaub's) wonderful Mother, joined them when her schedule permitted. They traveled to many areas of interest throughout the country and internationally, and enjoyed the traveling and the camaraderie it afforded.
Emma is survived by three nephews and four nieces and her ""Special Angel"", Dorann Holl (Schaub) who loved and cared for Emma, as if Emma were her own Mother. Dorann devoted countless hours in assisting Emma, prior to and, during her years in assisted living and nursing home care. There exists no praise which can adequately address Dorann's love, devotion, and dedication to the care of Emma, nor can there exist any degree of praise or honor more deserved by anyone.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Wilhelmina Buehlman; her sisters: Bertha K. M. Doran, Hilda E. Buehlman and Marie L. Schultz; and her brother Edward A. Buehlman. She was also preceded in death by two nieces, Charlene B. Doran Stanley, Garcia and Nancy Schultz Young.
The family also wishes to extend their most sincere gratitude to the extraordinary staff at Oregon Manor who administered outstanding and compassionate care to Emma during her entire stay. They provided the best quality of life possible for Emma and she was always happy, comfortable and content while she was there. The staff cannot be praised highly enough for the loving, patient, and caring manner with which Emma was treated.
A one hour visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with Funeral Services to begin at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Eldonna Hazen will officiate. Burial will follow at the Arena Cemetery, Buehlman Family Plot.
