MIDDLETON- Erica Frances Fleming, age 23, passed away unexpectedly Sunday January 24, 2016 while on vacation in Cancun, Mexico. She died from Toxic Shock Syndrome caused by a knee abrasion she received when slipping on the ice in Chicago. She was born in Madison on September 15, 1992.
Erica was the core and center of her large family which includes her mother Lisa Livesey and her fathers John K. Livesey and Scott (Andrea) Fleming. Erica is survived by her loving siblings Anthony Fleming, John (Jake) Livesey and Sydney Livesey. Furthermore she is survived by half siblings Londyn and Samuel. Erica's grandparents include Jean and Richard McKenzie, Kathy Fleming and John and Bonnie Livesey. Erica had numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who were all dear to her. Erica is also survived by her loving and devoted boyfriend of 6 years Bretton Oesterle and of course her beloved dogs Ping and Bella. Erica was preceded in death by her uncle Tim McKenzie and her grandfather Dean Fleming.
Erica was a lifelong resident of Middleton. She attended Middleton High School and graduated with honors in 2011. Next she attended the University of Wisconsin's Business School's Real Estate program and graduated with high honors in 2015. On July 11th, 2015 she embarked on her professional career in Chicago as a financial analyst for the Altus Group where Erica advised some of the largest institutional investors on diverse and complicated real estate transactions. In such a short period of time Erica became part of the Altus family. She was truly treasured by her coworkers and had become a valued member of the Altus team.
Erica was a gift to all who had the honor of knowing her. She was universally regarded as the most kind and compassionate person you could ever know. Erica possessed a wise old soul coupled with the exuberance of youth. She approached each day with such optimism and strength and pursued life with such passion. Erica loved the world and she was able to translate this love into a lifetime's worth of travel. Over her 23 years she was able to visit four continents and over 15 countries, enthusiastically embracing each new culture. Above all else Erica loved her family, often times preferring a night at home over a night on the town. The kindness, wisdom and strength she extended to her family will be irreplaceable. Her family will miss her more than words can describe. Erica had the rare ability to make the challenging seem easy, the sad seem happy and the stressful seem peaceful. The profound impact Erica had on her seemingly endless group of friends was truly remarkable. The loss felt by her friends has been poured out over countless letters and notes, each one telling how Erica has positively impacted their lives. Erica's laugh was infectious and all who knew her cherished that. How will we go on without that laugh? Simply put Erica made everyone's life better. The world is a lesser place with her gone but also a better place having had her.
