Erma "Ione" McManus

Erma Ione McManus, age 94 of Madison, WI. passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton, WI.

Ione, as she preferred to be named, was born in Savannah, IL on June 27, 1929, to Ralph and Nettie (Hall) Philumalee.

She was married to Florian M. Stamm on December 21, 1946 in Dubuque, Iowa. She was then, married to John B. (Jack) McManus on June 6, 1975 until his passing in 1985.

Ione is survived by her children Terry (Ann) Stamm, Sharon Stamm, Tim (Lisa) Stamm, Jim Stamm, David (Barbara) Stamm, seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 5 great/great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Carol (Ross) Van Deusen.

She was preceded in death by her son Larry Stamm, her sisters Patricia, Elaine, Delores, Donna and a daughter in-law, Carol (Jim) Stamm.

Ione worked in retail in the Madison area for many years particularly enjoying her time in cosmetic sales at The Boston Store and Macy’s department stores.

Mom was a loving and devoted mother to her 6 children as our family was growing up in Phoenix, AZ. and Madison, WI., always making sure we each had the knowledge and skills to make our own way in the world, often sacrificing her own needs for us. Often asked who her ‘favorite’ child was she never let on, we, knowing that each of us kids were her ‘favorite’.

A special ‘Thank You’ to the care givers and staff at Stoughton Meadows Assisted Living facility, Nazareth Health Rehabilitation Center of Stoughton, WI. and Heartland Hospice with their tremendous spiritual and medical caregiving with Mom.

Memorial services will be held at 12 Noon, on Monday July 29, 2024 at Midvale Community Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd, Madison, WI. Family will greet friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow.
