Ernest Cady Iii

MADISON - Ernest H. Cady III died peacefully at Agrace Hospice on September 4th, surrounded by family. He was 78 years old. He acquired the nickname of "Rip" as an infant and chose to be called that all of his life.

Rip was the son of Ernest H. Cady Jr. and Elizabeth Wheeler Cady. He grew up in Farmington, CT and attended South Kent School. Rip worked for 20 years at The Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, CT. His passions were sports (especially tennis, golf and bowling); travel (Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, Hawaii); and music (a huge collection of CDs, with emphasis on jazz and big bands). Rip loved games, especially cribbage, and was a formidable opponent.

Rip moved from Farmington to Madison in 1994 and has resided at the Meriter Retirement Community, now Capitol Lakes Retirement. He leaves behind two sisters, Marcia Cady of Verona and Jane Cady Fitchen of Fitchburg, a niece and two nephews, and six grand nieces and nephews. We will all miss Rip's generous spirit, his gentle manner and his savant's memory.

Rip's family is profoundly grateful for the compassionate care provided by both Capitol Lakes staff over twenty years and Agrace Hospice.

A memorial gathering will be held later at Capitol Lakes.
