Ernest W. Mabis, Sr.

Madison--Ernest Walter Mabis, Sr., age 101 passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 28, 2009 at St. Mary's Care Center. He was born January 20, 1908 in Argyle, MN, to the late Robert and Rosa (Thiele) Mabis. He retired from Oscar Mayer after 33 years as a meat cutter. He worked part-time in security for the Athletic Department to keep spectators out of football practices and on game day for 18 years before and after retirement.     Ernest is survived by his children, Ernie (Jeanine) Mabis, Jr. of Belleville, Shirley (Gordon) Smith of Madison, Esther Hanson of Friendship, and Bill Mabis of Sun Prairie. He is further survived by eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, four brothers, and a grandson.   Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Cress Funeral Home, 3325 E. Washington Ave, Madison with the Pastor Chuck Werth officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 am until the time of service.   Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison.
