Madison/Waunakee-Esther C. Kemmerer, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Oakwood Village West, Madison. She was born on December 15, 1921 the daughter of Emil & Inga (Andersen) Sommers. Esther was united in marriage with Walter Kemmerer on September 13, 1941 in the Township of Bergen, WI and he preceded her in death on January 13, 2000. Esther graduate from clinton HS and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for two years. She and her husband worked on the Kemmerer family farm in the Clinton area. She was an active leader in Rock County 4-H and 5-H. She shared her love of music by giving piano lessons to many students during her life. She worked for Mutual Service Insurance Co. for 20 years after the family moved to the Madison area in 1962. She also worked for the Spice Division of Oscar Mayer before her retirement in 1981. She and Walter moved to Ocala,Florida and were active members of the Fort King Presbyterian Church. They returned to live in Waunakee in 1993. She was a deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee. She loved visiting the residents at the Waunakee Manor and shared her great smile and strong faith. She has lived at Oakwood Village West for the past 5 years. She is survived by her beloved family which include her children, Barbara (Ken Huxhold) Smith, Middleton, Kathleen (Philip) Power, Ann Arbor, MI and Doris Hanson, Vernon Hills, IL; her grandchildren, Sharol Persike, Daniel Smith, Scott (Molly) Sutton, Nathan Power, Matthew Hanson and Bradley Hanson; her great-grandchildren, Amanda Persike, Megan Persike, Tyler Smith, Ashley Smith, Lucy Sutton and Sadie Sutton; her brother, LeRoy Sommers, Libertyville, IL; other relatives and friends. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Edwin and Lawrence and a sister, AnnaMae Spence. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 5763 Hwy Q, Waunakee. A time of gathering will be held on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee or the Oakwood Foundation. the family extends special thank you to the staffs at Covenant Oaks and Hebron Oaks for their loving care of our mother for the past 5 years.
