Ethel Gion

November 28, 1921 — September 3, 2020

Ethel Elizabeth Gion passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 in Madison, Wisconsin.  She was born on November 28, 1921 to the late Michael and Margaret (Kilzer) Gion on their homestead farm near Regent, North Dakota; she was one of nine children.   Ethel attended and graduated eighth grade from Cherry Butte Consolidated School.  She then completed three years of her high school education via correspondence courses from North Dakota State College, Fargo, North Dakota.  One year later, Ethel finished her high school education and graduated from St. Mary’s High School, New England, North Dakota.

Ethel received an associates degree and became a Registered Medical Technologist after three years of college courses at Dickinson State College (formerly Dickenson State Teacher’s College) followed by an internship at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, North Dakota in 1949.  Her career as a Medical Technologist and Cytotechnologist spanned 50 rewarding years.   She lived many years in Elgin, IL, where she retired, then spent her final years in Madison, Wisconsin.

Ethel is survived by her sister, Hermine Martin and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Hilda (Robert Martin) and Helen (Gerald Colling), brothers Victor, Joseph (Helene Thomas), August, Alphonse (Rosemary Doyle), and a brother-in-law Lee Martin.
