Deerfield- Eugene W. Halverson, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 23, 2011. He was born on July 28, 1933, the son of Wilford and Ollie (Anderson) Halverson. Eugene lived and worked on his family farm in Deerfield his entire life. He attended Oak Park grade school and graduated from Deerfield High School. Eugene had a passion for farming and gardening, living up to the saying, ""If you do what you love you will never work a day in your life."" On April 24, 1954, he married Carol Jean Calder at Deerfield Lutheran Church. Eugene was very involved in the Deerfield Community, serving on the School Board, Township Planning Committee, Fire Commission, Deerfield Co-op Board of Directors and Deerfield Lutheran Church Council, currently a member of the church finance committee. He was actively involved in his children and grandchildren activities and pursuits. Eugene enjoyed going out for dinner, for a drive, to the theatre, tending to his farm, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Jean; four children, Jeff (Debra), Bruce (Cheryl), Carrie (Steven Jacobs) and Mark (Jill); nine grandchildren, Erik (Allison), Elizabeth, Chris (Amanda), Carrie, John (Amanda), Michael, Evan, Alan and Logan; three great grandchildren, Brayden, Ethan and Evelyn, and two due in 2011; sister, Carol (Dan) Kalscheur; sister-in-law, Judy (Fritz) Dorshorst; nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Harley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Deerfield Lutheran Church, 206 S. Main Street, with Rev. Larry Sexe officiating. Burial will follow in Deerfield Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon following the burial, at the church. Visitation will be held at church from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 27, 2011 and from 10:00 AM until the time of services Friday. Memorials may be made to the church.
