Eugene W. Nuehring

Eugene William Edward ""Gene"" Nuehring, Age 75, passed away suddenly of natural causes on Tuesday, July 26, at Madison Recharging, Inc., the business he founded and ran. Born August 8, 1935, Gene was a 1953 graduate of Madison West High School. With basic training at Lackland AFB, he was a 20 year veteran of the Wisconsin Air National Guard. A long term employee of Wolf, Kubly & Hirsig and then Jefferson Fire Safety, he also worked for many years as a part-time dispatcher for the city of Monona. Gene established his own fire safety equipment sales and service business in 1981. A short while later he added the installation of emergency equipment in municipal vehicles to the services provided.

Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Lora (1987), and father, Elery (2003). He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Elane Nuehring, Miami, FL, aunts Dorothy (Alden) and Darlene (Eldred) Nuehring of Postville, IA, uncle Robert DeMarr of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and a number of cousins located throughout the midwest.

He was a life member of the Moose Lodge, and United Commercial Travelers, and a founding member of the Lakeland Radio Club. Gene was an active member of Luther Memorial Church for nearly 64 years. He helped design, build and install the first sound system in the church sanctuary. His business was his work and his hobby. As a bachelor who put in long hours, he took most of his meals out at local family restaurants where he collected friends among the staff and patrons alike. He loved to tease, and was often the target in return. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to one of the nearby casinos, especially when shared with friends and family.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, at Luther Memorial Church, 1021 University Ave, Madison, followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will precede the service at the church beginning at 9:00 AM, and follow the burial service at the Cress Funeral Home on Speedway Road. Memorial donations may be made to Luther Memorial Church in his name. Madison Recharging continues in business as his legacy.
