Madison - Evelyn J. (Blotz) Janda, age 92, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Oakwood Village East in Madison, WI. She was born on September 13, 1917 in Dodgeville, WI, the daughter of Albert ""Bert"" and Cora (Potterton) Blotz. Â Â
Evelyn graduated from the University of Wisconsin -- Madison with a B.S. in Home Economics and Education in 1940. Upon graduation, she taught Home Economics at Dodgeville High School. Evelyn later returned to the University of Wisconsin and obtained a M.S. in Home Economics in 1949.
Evelyn pursued several teaching jobs throughout the state of Wisconsin and eventually became an instructor at the Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, where she met Alvin ""Al"" Janda. They were united in marriage on June 6, 1953 and together raised a family in Green Bay. In retirement, they enjoyed their time together at their lake cottage in Athelstane, WI and winter retreat in Tucson, AZ where she would spend her time sewing, baking, and tending to her flower garden. Evelyn was a strong, determined woman who advocated women's education and inspired her family.
Evelyn is survived by her son Bruce (Debra) Janda of Hortonville, WI; her daughter Mary (Tony) Liebig of Windsor, WI; her stepson Robert (Dawn) Janda of Navarre, FL; four grandchildren: Sarah (David) Reynolds, Nicholas Janda, Debra (Scott) Bryan, and Lori (Tim) Dirkman; six great-grandchildren; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents, her sister Kathryn, and her nephew Steve.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 21 at Oakwood Village East, Tree of Life Chapel, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, WI. Chaplain Doug Locken will officiate. There will be a visitation at Oakwood Village East from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. The family would like to thank the staff at Oakwood Village East for their care during the last year and HospiceCare Inc. of Madison for their care during her final months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Evelyn's honor to the Oakwood Foundation, 6201 Mineral Point Road, Madison, WI 53705 or the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute, 7818 Big Sky Drive, Suite 215, Madison, WI 53719.
Evelyn was kind, unassuming, and independent; she will be greatly missed by all who knew her .
