Madison- Florence L. Shapiro, age 93 passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010. Â She was born on Sepember 5, 1916 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Sam and Elizabeth (Tiersky) London. Florence lost her mother in 1918 at the age of two due to the flu epidemic and was raised by her grandparents, aunts and uncles. Â In the early 1940's Florence was united in marriage to Louis Shapiro in Chicago, IL. Â Since 1951 they have been Madison area residents. Â Also in 1951, they purchased ""Sweet's Food Shop"" with their brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Sara Shapiro. Â Following the store closing in 1971, Florence began working at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the residence halls for over 15 years. Â For the past 25 years, she was known as the ""Queen"" of Collector's Corner in Middleton. Â Florence was a loving, social and popular individual, whom everyone loved. Â She was also famous for her mandel bread. Â Florence made sure everyone received some of her cookies. Â She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Â Florence is survived by her three children; Lawrence Shapiro, Susan (Barry) Trost and Amy (Jeffrey Olenick) Shapiro, four grandchildren; Aaron and Carey Trost, Shelli Shapiro and Louis Olenick, two brothers; Norman London and Martin London and a sister; Arlene Morris. Â She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis and a brother, Harold Zavodnik. Â Funeral services will be held at Temple Beth El, 2702 Arbor Drive, Madison on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Cantor Deborah Martin officiating. Â Burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. Â
