CROSS PLAINS - Florian "Flo" Remitz, age 87, passed away on February 2, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg.
Florian was born in Slovenia, Yugoslavia, on August 12, 1924, to Florian and Agnes Remitz, and came to the U.S. at three years of age. He grew up in Milwaukee, served in the Army in WWII and graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, IA, with an Architectural/Engineering degree. Florian worked as an architect/engineer at Flad & Associates, Madison, until he was 67.
He was an active, athletic, fun-loving person most of his life, who enjoyed tennis, golf, fly fishing and camping in the great outdoors (his "cathedral"), especially on the Boundary Waters in Minnesota/ Canada with friends and family. He was an avid Wisconsin Hockey and Football fan, and attended many Badger games, when he was able. He shared his love of music with his family and friends, and played the accordion in his younger years, having performed on a local radio station in Milwaukee, as a child. His health took a downturn after a broken leg in 2004, but was still engaged in his love of golf with help of friends and family who called on him to "drive the golf cart."
Florian is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children of Lois, Katie Barber of Madison, Jim (Betty) Remitz of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and David Remitz of Madison. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Remitz of Wyoming, Minnesota; along with several nieces and nephews in Minnesota and Virginia. Florian is further survived by other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Florian's life will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at THE HILLTOP INN, 4173 County Trunk P, Cross Plains, WI.
Florian's family thanks his friends who showed so many kindnesses and generosities in his later years, and helped him stay as active as possible. A special thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers of Agrace HospiceCare, who lovingly cared for him on the "last leg" of his journey on earth.
Memorials may be made in his name to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, or to any of your favorite charities serving children and animals, such as Feed the Children and the Dane Co. Humane Society.
