Frank Brown

MADISON -Frank Frederick Brown, age 101, of Madison, passed away on August 12, 2017 at Oakwood Village.
Frank was born on November 7, 1915 in Verona, the son of Frank and Ella (Voss) Brown.
He graduated from Verona High School in 1934. After graduation, he attended Madison Business College. While attending college, he began his 44 year career in the oil business with Mobil Oil Corporation and later Exxon Mobil. He served as Sales Representative, Area Manager, District Manager and, finally, Senior Real Estate Representative for Exxon Mobil retiring in 1980
He married the love of his life, Lylas L. Hoesly, on September 9, 1940 and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage living in Monroe, Oconomowoc, and moving to Madison in 1956 where he continued to live in Madison until the time of his death. They spent many winters in Lake Worth, FL.
In 1943, he enlisted in the Navy where he served on the USS Miami and at the US Naval Air Stations in San Pedro, California and later in Jacksonville, FL.
He enjoyed being with family and walleye fishing at his daughters' cabins in northern Wisconsin. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Blackhawk Country Club where he was given an honorary life membership in his later years. Frank was a member of the American Legion in Verona and a more than 50 year member of the Madison Zor Shrine, a member of the West Palm Beach Elks Club and the First Congregational Church of Lake Worth, FL. From a young age, he loved to play poker with his many friends at Ho-Chunk.
Frank is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Tom) Olson of Sanibel, FL and Catherine (Dennis) Breitholtz of Presque Isle, WI. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Eric (Kristin) Olson, Andy (Lisa) Olson, Mike (Jen) Olson, Ben (Katie) Breitholtz and Nate (Patsy) Breitholtz as well as 11 great-children and many nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lylas, his parents, three sisters, Gladys Smith, Ethel Gust, and Edna Brown, and one brother, George Brown.
Frank will be remembered for his tenacity and his zest for life.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date in Presque Isle, WI.
