Madison - Frank C. Heimerl, Jr. (Sam) age 86, died on March 15, 2009 at Meriter Hospital after a long illness. He was born April 3, 1922 to Pauline Caston and Frank C. Heimerl, Sr. Sam attended Blessed Sacrament elementary school and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1940. After attending the UW - Madison Sam enlisted in the US Coast Guard where he served the country throughout World War II. Sam managed and later owned the Monroe Street Pet Shop where he made many friends and helped teach several generations to appreciate, love and respect animals. Sam will be remembered by most for his love of life, his loving spirit and his great sense of humor. He not only dearly loved his wife Kathylene (Katie) and his six children but especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sam is immediately survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathylene (Corcoran) Heimerl; his younger sister, Virginia (Ginny) Heimerl of Madison; his six children, Christopher (Wendy) Heimerl of Cross Plains, Timothy (Faye) Heimerl of Westminster, CO, Peggy (John) Kho of Elmwood Park, IL, Kathy (Scott) Varese of Cross Plains, Steven (Nettie) Heimerl of Madison, and Douglas (Tara) Heimerl of Madison. Sam is also survived by 16 grandchildren, Zakary (Liz), Marlon, Emaleah, Heidi (Chris), Jeremy, Ben, Anna, Gretchen, David, Cody, Sean, Dane, Leilani, Jack, Henry and Sam; along with two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Sarah. A visitation will be held on Thursday March 19, 2009 at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2115 Rowley Avenue, Madison, at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, with Fr. Patrick Norris, O.P. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sam's name may be made to either Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church; Edgewood High School, 2219 Monroe Street, Madison, WI 53711; or HospiceCare Foundation, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, 53711.
