Fred Nelson

Deerfield- Fred Nelson, age 85 of Deerfield WI died on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at home with his family by his side.

Fred was born December 30, 1937, to Esther (Zechzer) and Lewis Nelson. He attended Deerfield Schools graduating in 1956.  Fred was a farmer and a well known livestock hauler for over 50 years. Fred was life long member of St Paul’s Liberty Lutheran Church and served on church council, Deerfield Township chairman for 24 years, Deerfield Volunteer Fireman, and active in many organizations. Fred was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who asked.

Fred married Ethel Sporleder on November 18, 1961. Together they raised 3 children, Richard (Roxane Schiller), Christine Schaefer and Holly Nelson (Frank Allen).  He is survived by his wife, children, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and other friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at St. Paul’s Liberty Lutheran Church, 3494 Oak Park Road, Deerfield, with Rev. Holly Slater officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon reception at the church Education Center. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at church, and from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Wednesday.
