Fred E. Theiler

Fred E. Theiler   Madison - Fred E. Theiler, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 23nd, 2010 at Oakwood Lutheran Home after a long battle with prostate cancer.   He was born August 14th, 1921 in Monroe , WI , the son of Fritz and Frieda (Hugli) Theiler.   He attended New Glarus High School graduating in 1939.   He completed a welding technology program at the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) and began working at the Sturgeon Ship Yard, fabricating mine sweepers.   After Pearl Harbor he was called by the Madison Vocational School to teach and train welders.   In Sept. 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Floerikan in the Pacific.  After the war he attended UW - Stout to earn his state teaching certificate.   In 1947 he married Hilda Marian Furrer.   They had two children Richard (wife, Jane) Theiler from Scottsdale , Arizona and Nancy (husband Jeff) Theiler Albrecht.   Fred taught industrial welding at MATC for 37 years retiring in 1984.   He was a life member of the American Welding Society and in 1954 founded the Madison-Beloit AWS section and served as Chairman.   He was an active member of Midvale Lutheran Church and was actively involved in family life from coaching little league to being a Boy Scout leader.   He loved the outdoors and spent many summers with his family camping across the country.     Fred is survived by his wife, Hilda, a brother Herman (Pauline) Theiler, Stoughton WI , his son Richard (Jane) Theiler, Scottsdale AZ , and four grandchildren; Becky Albrecht, Tucson Arizona , Carrie Albrecht Mt. Horeb Wi., Devan (Theiler) Mourtos, Medford,   NJ, and Dana Theiler, Bernardsville NJ,. His parents and daughter Nancy have preceded him in death.      Funeral services will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison on Tuesday May 25th 2010 AT 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 25 from 10:00 am until the time of services. Private burial will at held at Sunset Memory Gardens .   Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Midvale Lutheran Church .
