Frederick C. Balmer

Stoughton- Frederick C. Balmer, age 70, died on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at home.  He was born on March 12, 1938 to Frederick C. Balmer and Frieda (Kohn) Balmer.  He attended Cold Springs Grade School and Waterloo High School.  Fred started in construction work at an early age with his father at Fred Balmer Inc.  In 1980 he established Balmer Excavating which he continued until his retirement in 2000.  He was married to Judith C. Lewis in 1995 on Maui, Hawaii.  They lived and enjoyed their home in Pleasant Springs.  Fred is survived by his wife, Judith; granddaughter, Jasmine (Ryan) Sharp; three grandsons, Andrew and Daniel Grau and Ethan Lewis; step-sons, Steven (Laura) Lewis and Gary (Trish) Cahee and son-in-law, Steven (Linda) Grau.  Fred, also known as Fritz, is further survived by four sisters, Beatrice Holzhueter, Darlene Gordon, Mary (Jacob) Jeffson and Carol (Darrell) Lange; a sister-in-law, Grace Frutiger; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Michelle Grau; sister, Bernadine Hensler; and three brothers-in-law.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, with Pastor Bernt Tweit of Holy Cross Lutheran Church officiating.  Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery South in Stoughton.  Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until the time of service on Wednesday.  Memorials to Holy Cross Lutheran Church would be appreciated.  The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Amit Sanyal and his staff at Dean Oncology and all who cared for Fred and all who loved him.
