Madison/Cottage Grove - Freida M. (Riddle) Schroeder, age 78, died on Monday, April 16, 2012 at home of natural causes.
She was born on December 28, 1933, the daughter of Alonzo and Alta Riddle in the town of Lodi. Along with her twin sister, Ferne, she was one of the youngest of 7 children. She married Frederick J. Schroeder on November 8, 1952 in Madison. They were married for 26 years until his death on April 27, 1978. She was a long time resident of the town of Cottage Grove, farming for many years with her husband and their 5 children. She also worked for over 35 years for the State of Wisconsin at the former Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations as an employee that helped figure out the unemployment rates for the State.
Some of Freida's favorites hobbies were bowling, gardening, reading, playing cards and the occasional trip to Florida to see her sister and to various Air Force bases to visit her oldest son.
She is survived by her 5 children, Tom (Becky) of Wichita Falls, Texas, Richard (Patty) of Sun Prairie, Larry (Kathy) of Cottage Grove, Patty (Jeff) Duerst of Wyocena and Judy of Madison; a step son, Skip (Vicki) Schroeder of Texas; a step daughter, Sue Lynn of Illinois; 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Jeff) Cerney, Erin (Frank) Bartek, Eric Schroeder, Sheri Schroeder, Micheal (Marie) Schroeder, Amy (Paul) Klabacka, Bob (Carol) Schroeder, Ben Payne, Greg Payne and Andrew Schroeder; 11 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. She is also survived by her 3 sisters, Hazel, Frances and Ferne (Donnie) along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred and her brothers, Gordon, Ernest and David Riddle.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Cress Funeral Home, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison WI. A visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 20, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will conclude at Highland Memory Gardens in Cottage Grove, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
Freida will be missed by all of her family and she was more than just a good mother, but a great friend.
