Gene Gehl, 78, passed away on March 1st, 2024. He was born and raised on a farm outside of Forest Junction, WI, the youngest of Joe and Emily Gehl’s 5 children. Gene attended Kaukauna High School and later graduated from UW Stout with degrees in Industrial Arts, Art and Education. While at Stout he met the love of his life, Jo Ellen Fredrickson. In their nearly 56 years of marriage they had two sons, whom they raised in Little Chute. Jo and Gene divided their many wonderful years of retirement between Florida and Madison, Wisconsin.
Gene was hired by Kimberly High School in 1967 where he spent 35 years before retiring in 2002. In Gene’s time at Kimberly he served the community as a teacher, wrestling coach and Athletics Director. A 2007 inductee into the Kimberly Athletics Hall Of Fame he was always very proud of the success of Kimberly High School’s athletic teams and athletes. In 1991 Gene created the senior wrestling showcase that would later be named after him, the Gene Gehl All-Star Classic.
Gene is survived by his wife Jo, Sons Tyler (Stephanie) Gehl, Judd (Jessica) Gehl, Grandchildren Collin and Camryn Gehl. His sister Dolores Farrell and brothers Charles (Betty) Gehl, and Jerry (Mary) Gehl, In-laws Beth (Marc) Sommerfeldt and Carl (Barb) Fredrickson
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Emily Gehl, sister Joann Wall and brothers in law Jimmy Wall and Eugene Farrell and Mother and Father in law Lester and Doris Fredrickson.
A funeral service will be held at St. Francis Church in Hollandtown, 433 County Rd CE, Kaukauna, WI at 12 noon on Saturday March 9th, 2024.
A celebration of Gene’s kick ass life will be held immediately following the service at Van Abel’s of Hollandtown.
