Genevieve Busse

October 10, 1914 — May 19, 2013

Genevieve Mary Catherine Slater Busse, age 98, passed away at her home at Attic Angel Place on Sunday, 19 May 2013, after a short illness. She is survived by two children, Louis, III of Vacaville, CA, and Carolyn Klemett (Phil) of Sylvania, OH, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Erik D. Klemett and wife, Gayla (Walker) and son, Samuel of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Kristofer J. Klemett and wife, Laura (Thomas) and son and daughter, Andrew and Genevieve of Austin, Texas.

Gen was born in Chicago, Illinois on 10 October 1914, to Harry and Bernice (Hoehn) Slater. She was preceded in death by her darling husband of 72 years, Louis W. Busse, her parents, her Aunt, Hermina Hoehn and Grandmother, Jenny Hoehn who brought her up, and two brothers, William and John, both of Chicago, Ill.

Gen graduated from Kenosha H.S. and attended the University of Wisconsin where she met her beloved husband, Louie. They were married at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Kenosha, Wisconsin on 8 August 1938. Except for a brief stay in Washington, D.C. during WW II while Louie served on the War Production Board, they spent their entire married life in Madison.

Gen was active in many community activities; the University League, University YWCA, Dane County Republican Women and P.E.O. Chapter BL. She supported her loving husband throughout his career at the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy and traveled with him all over the world. Gen always said, however, that her most important job was raising her children, Louis and Carolyn.

In accordance with Gen's wishes, there will be a small graveside service for family at a time yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the "Louis W. Busse Scholarship" at the UW School of Pharmacy. Checks can be made out to the UW Foundation and sent to the attention of Linda Halsey at: 1848 University Avenue, Madison, Wisconsin 53726 or gifts can be made on-line by going to: www.pharmacy.wisc.edu/make-gift . Gen's family wishes to thank those who have sent cards of condolence, personal messages and memorials in Gen's honor.
