George Bauer

MADISON - George J. Bauer Jr., age 90, passed away peacefully September 12, 2016. George was born July 29, 1926 in New Ulm, MN to George J. & Barbara A. Bauer. The family settled in Plain WI and he met Dorothy H. Westphal in 1952 and shortly afterwards, George was drafted by the Army and served in the Korean War. Upon return from the War, George and Dorothy were married on October 2, 1954 and they eventually settled in Madison in 1963. George was an avid ice fisherman and a shade-tree mechanic. He loved anything mechanical, especially cars and would hop in his car just to go for a drive. He was always there to lend a helping hand to those who needed their lawns cared for or driveways shoveled. George retired from the Madison Metropolitan School District. George is survived by his wife of 62 years Dorothy, his sister-in-law Marge Bauer, brother-in-law Vern (Dee) Westphal, and many nieces and nephews. His is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ben, Andy and Tony and many other family and friends.
A funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday Sept. 17, 2016 at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1020 Spaight St. Madison, with Rev. Michael Erdman presiding. Burial will be at 2:45 PM on Saturday at St. Paul Cemetery in Reedsburg. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Friday Sept. 16, 2016 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd, and also from 10:00 AM until the service on Saturday at the church.
