George Brader

Madison-George Henry Brader born November 6, 1927, son of George I. and Margie L. (Himsel) Brader, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020. He spent his entire life in the city of Madison, attending Longfellow Grade School and Wisconsin High School class of 1945. George went to UW Madison for a year and half before entering the U.S. Army in 1946-1948 with his time of service spent at Ft. Dix, N.J. Upon his return to Madison he attended Madison Business College for 2 years and began his working career with the Wisconsin Conservation Department as an accountant and retired from the Department of Natural Resources in 1990.

Much of George’s life was dedicated to his church work. He was an active member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church until he became a charter member of Blackhawk Church in 1965. There he was involved in the church’s financial systems. He also helped out in teaching in the Sunday School program and volunteering anyplace where he saw a need.

Sports played a very important part of George’s life and he was a long time holder of Badger season tickets for both football and basketball. He was involved in the City League sports program in basketball and fast pitch for many years. He enjoyed many rounds of golf with his buddies at Odana Hills Golf Course.

George was married on Sept. 7, 1950, to Maxine Pepper at Bethany Evangelical Free Church. Born to them were two sons, Bob (Jane) Brader of Madison and David (Lois, deceased) Brader of Austin, TX; who both survive him. Grandchildren who survive him are Anne (Andy Soiney) Brader of Medina, MN; Tim Brader (Tabby), of West Bend, WI; Tim Cady, of Linneus, ME; Mark (Twila) of Houston, TX; Faith (Steve) Dripping, of Springs, TX; six great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. George is also survived by a brother-in-law, Don Campbell as well as nieces and nephews.

George’s wife, Maxine, passed away in 2005 and on Nov. 27, 2009, he was married to Carol Duit. That added to his family with Carol’s two daughters and 3 grandchildren, Amy Everson of Madison, Emily Duit of Rockford, IL, and grandchildren Eva, Miranda and Matthew.
