George F. Clayton

George F. Clayton, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Madison, WI. He was born on July 6, 1922 in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of George H. and Mabel (Parr) Clayton.

George was a Mechanical Engineer who attended UW-Madison and proudly served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the carrier USS Yorktown. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Gyro Club, and was a lifetime member of the Elks Club. He loved bowling, golfing, traveling and reading.

George is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Mary (Isabella) Clayton of Madison, to whom he was married for 62 years, his brother, John Clayton of Cottage Grove, WI, sister-in-law, Nancy Vilbrandt, two sons, Thomas (Patricia) Clayton of Elgin, Illinois, and Richard (Jacqueline) Clayton of Oshkosh, WI, and daughter, Debra (Paul) Fahey, of Goodyear, Arizona.

Grandchildren: Jennifer (Bill) Coggin, Julie (Chris) White, and Jeffery (Brittanie) Clayton are all of Atlanta, Georgia and are the children of Thomas and Patricia Clayton. Andrew (Lauren) Clayton, Philip (Courtney) Clayton, Daniel Clayton, Joseph Clayton, Anna Clayton are all of Oshkosh, WI and are the children of Richard and Jacqueline Clayton. Lauren Fahey and Lisa Fahey of Madison, WI are the daughters of Debra and Paul Fahey.

Great-grandchildren: Billy, Brandon, and Justyn Coggin, sons of Jennifer and Bill Coggin; Liam Clayton, son of Andrew and Lauren Clayton. He also has many nieces and nephews whom he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. and Mabel (Parr) Clayton, his sister, Elizabeth M. (Fritz) Winterbotham, and sister-in-law, Kay Clayton.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. There will also be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in George's memory to Southern Care Hospice, 402 Gammon Place Suite 110, Madison, WI 53719.
