George Collins

MADISON- George E. Collins, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. George was born on January 10, 1928 in Stuart, Iowa to Martin and Linnie Collins.

George graduated from the State University of Iowa and received his PhD from Cornell University. After working for IBM, George spent the majority of his career at UW-Madison in the Computer Sciences Dept. where his focus was on computer algebra. After retiring, he continued his research, publishing works as late as 2016.

George is survived by his daughters Cynthia "Cindy" Collins (Jim Miller), Nancy Rusch, and Rebecca Collins; grandchildren David Rusch, Andrew Rusch, and Sofia Collins; and many other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and his 6 siblings.

George's interests varied from the environment to classical music. At his request, no services will be held or memorial donations designated.
