George Elder

Madison - George H. Elder, age 91, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Heritage Assisted Living. He was born on July 30, 1926 to James and Isabelle (Swantz) Elder in Madison. George was a lifelong Madison resident. He graduated from East High School and the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where he was Manager of the University Crew Team. George was a City of Madison Alderman, City Council President, Dane County Board Supervisor and on the City of Madison Water Board. He had a lifelong interest in trains, and was a member of the South Central Model Railroad Association. He was also a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. George was an avid swimmer at UW, a world traveler, and a proud backer of UW athletics. George was preceded in death by his parents. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, with Rev. Eldonna Hazen presiding. Burial will be held at Union Grove Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Congregational UCC, 1609 University Ave, Madison, WI 53726.
