Sun Prairie -- George Arvine Marvin Sr., age 83, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at his home in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born on October 6, 1926, the son of Seth and Hilabel (Purple) Marvin in DeKalb, Illinois. George served in the Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Jane Crook on May 28, 1964. George became a certified union electrician with Local Union 159 and retired from Hazelton Labs in 1991. George was a member of the Sun Prairie VFW Post 9362 and served as commander and chaplain. George enjoyed bowling, fishing and spending time with his family.
George is survived by his wife, Jane Marvin; his children, George Marvin Jr., Craig (Donna) Marvin, Scott (Mary) Marvin, Cheryl (Kyle) Kiener, Renee Vern) Baumiester and Tenny (Paul) Wiegel; 13 grandchildren, Brian and Pamm Marvin, Lee Ann and Chris Zingg, Taylor, Kevin, Logan Marvin, Cory and Sheri Fredenberg, Lynzee Kiener, Tony and Denise Baumiester and Amanda Marvin; 4 great grandchildren, Jesi Mavin, Trey and Beckett Fredenberg and Samantha Baumiester; sisters, Carolyn Heinroth, Barb (James) Vorhies, Beth Vowels, Mary and Dick Weretherby, Phyllis (Bob) Gentery, Jill Marvin and Judy (Ralph) Huge; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Helen Burns and an infant son, Bruce.
A memorial service will be held at SUN PRAIRIE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 702 North Street, Sun Prairie, on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Scott Carlson officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George's name to the Sun Prairie United Methodist Church or HospiceCare Inc. 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 537
