George Money

MIDDLETON-George "Jack" H. Money, Jr., age 97, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2014. He was born on February 23, 1917 in Bay View, Wisconsin, the son of George, Sr. and Hazel (Leigh) Money.
George worked at Western Electric and Cutler Hammer in Milwaukee as a switch assembler before and after being inducted into the US Army in 1942. He was trained as a communications teacher and was sent to New Guinea with an early warning unit attached to the Air Force. His unit was getting ready for the invasion of Japan when news came of the atomic bombs. It took three months to get back home on a troop ship.
George married Lucille G. Kurtz on October 18, 1941, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. They lived in Wauwatosa, Hales Corners, and at Cedar Ridge in Oconomowoc until moving to Barron in 1970. They owned and operated the Barron Motel until 1982 when they retired. In 2001, they moved to Eau Claire where they resided at the Realife Co-op apartments. After Lucille's death, George returned to Cedar Ridge in Oconomowoc and then to the Jefferson in Middleton. George has been a member of several Masonic Lodges since he first joined in 1951.
George is survived by his daughter Marilyn Halstead of Madison; son Daniel (Bonalyn Barker) Money of Evansville; grandsons Edward (Sarah Hartnell) Halstead of Madison and Peter Money of Twin Cities; and one great-grandson Kaleb Halstead. He is further survived by one niece and one nephew. George was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, in 2006 after almost 65 years of marriage.
A Masonic Memorial Service for George will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Avenue in Madison. The Masonic service is open to the public. Gathering will take place from 1-1:45 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Cress Center. A private entombment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee at a later date.
