George A. Pulvermacher, age 84, of Martinsville, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, of natural causes. He was born on February 22, 1939, to Florian and Henrietta (Lochner) Pulvermacher. On May 31, 1965, George was united in marriage to Barbara Coyle at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Pine Bluff.
George was a man of work. George graduated from Middleton High School in 1958. Following high school, he went right to work for the family business, Pulvermacher Inc., where he processed meat, tended bar in the evenings, and worked the store during the day. Eventually, he took ownership of the business in 1966. Pulvermacher Inc. was as important to him as it was to the entire community, which he took a great deal of pride in. In 1988, he started Diversified Cleaning until retirement where he spent many hours making sausage in his back garage.
George was a man of faith. He was a lifetime member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church, and he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Although church came first on Sundays, he always enjoyed cheering on the Packers with family on Sunday afternoons.
George was a man of service. While serving with the U.S. Army Reserves he was ordered to active duty in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis, assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington. Later in life, on Oct. 5, 2019, he was honored to participate in the Badger Honor Flight to Washington D.C. for his service to his country.
George was a man of his community. Nothing gave him more joy than spending time in his garage sausage kitchen. He enjoyed making brats, sausage, and jerky for his customers, friends, and family. The garage sausage kitchen was also the site of countless card games with friends over the years– something George was able to enjoy up until his passing.
Most importantly, George was a man of love and family. A cherished family tradition that he always enjoyed was the Pulvermacher family Christmas sausage making event.
George and Barbara celebrated 58 years of marriage in May and will continue to be a beautiful example of love and devotion for their family. We are so grateful for the life he lived and the love he gave.
George is survived by his wife, Barbara; children Joseph, Joanne (Corey) Brunett and Dan (Sarah); daughter-in-law, Susan; grandchildren, Allison, Tyrell and Landon, sisters Florence Hellenbrand and Ann (Glenn) Johnston; in-laws Margie Tesar, Jan (Connie) Pulvermacher-Ryan, John (Marion) Coyle, Vince Perkins, Maureen (Ron) Schwarz, Jennifer (Arnie) Breunig, Joyce (Randall) Simon, Bill Coyle, Mike (Jill) Coyle, many nieces and nephews.
