George Schroeder

WAUNAKEE-George H. Schroeder, age 87, died on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at his home in Waunakee, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. He was born on April 24, 1929, at the family farm, in the Township of Springfield to Clemens and Gertrude (Helt) Schroeder. He married the love of his life Doris Ley on May 27, 1967. They resided in Waunakee for 49 years where they proudly raised four children. George worked for 38 years at Central Wisconsin Center until his retirement in 1995. George loved family gatherings, spending time with many special friends and traveling with his beloved wife. He had a number of hobbies including woodworking, gardening, shopping the flea markets for a bargain, going to Ho-Chunk, playing Euchre and watching Wheel of Fortune. George could never turn down a good slice of lemon meringue pie. He was a member of St John's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his loving wife, Doris; daughters, Jacquelyn (Chris) Ziegler, Mary (Wally) Hoon, and Theresa (Roger) McMunn; son, John (Vicky); nine grandchildren, Jesse and Carly Ziegler, Jacob, Dylan and Logan Hoon, and Ryan, Hannah, Ian and Megan McMunn. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rosalia Meinholz, Catherine Sternhagen, Caroline Kalscheur, Marie Ziegler, Elizabeth Ziegler, and Delores Pronold; and brothers, Henry, Joseph, Jack, Alphonse and Raymond.

Special thanks to BrightStar and Home Health United Hospice caregivers for treating George with loving hands during his final months at home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St John's Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Friends may call at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy. Q, Waunakee, on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
