George John Scocos 77, of Madison, passed away the morning of Tuesday, December 31st after a series of illnesses which resulted in him being placed in hospice care for the past few months. Shortly after Father Christodoulos Margellos of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church provided final blessings, George took his last breath.
George was born on November 14, 1947, to John and Mary Scocos in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. He was the first child in his family and relished being the older brother and eldest cousin among the close-knit extended family anchored by George’s mother Mary and his aunts, her sisters, Kea and Fran. George attended and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1967. Initially, he went to work for his family hardware store in Delavan, Wisconsin. Later, he attained his driver’s license and passed the civil service exam to become an employee of the state of Wisconsin with whom he worked for over 20 years. After retirement, George continued to engage in his passion for sports, most notably Wisconsin teams. He regularly attended University of Wisconsin football, hockey, and basketball games. He was an ardent Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packer fan. George was also very active in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church and the Order of the AHEPA. In his later years his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his nephews, nieces, and grandnephews.
George was among the kindest individuals to have graced our earth and we, his family, and friends, feel immensely fortunate to have been a part of his life. We thank Dr. Katherine Wang of the UW Health care team for overseeing George’s complicated healthcare with competence and compassion. In addition, we thank Agrace hospice for providing George comfort in his final days.
George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary. He is survived by his brothers Spyros and John (Kelly), his nephews Andreas and Costa, and nieces Chloe, Tatianna, and Theo. He is further survived by grandnephews and grandnieces: Jetson, Koby, Mack, Frances, and Catherine.

Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon immediately following the service, in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services at church on Monday.
