Madison - George Woodrow Wilson, age 93, was born on March 19, 1918, in Caney, Kansas, and died March 26, 2011.
He was the youngest of six children, all of whom predeceased him. He served in the Kansas National Guard Cavalry until World War II, where he served in the Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant, for a total of six years. He earned honors as a sharpshooter. While stationed at Truax Field in Madison, Wis., he met and married (November 18, 1943) Elnora Bemis. They had four children: Ellen (Roger) Miller, Thomas (deceased), Jeanne (deceased), and Daniel (Beth). He had 10 grandchildren, and sixteen great- grandchildren. He really loved his children; his grandchildren were very important to him, and they loved him in return. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired. He was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was custodian there until he retired from that at 70 years of age. He loved singing in the choir. He was a Red Cross instructor, active in the Boy Scouts, and a Christian men's prayer group. He especially enjoyed camping and bird-watching.
