Waunakee – Gerald J. Maly, 93, passed away on February 17,^, 2024.  He was born in the town of Dane to Hubert and Elizabeth (Statz) Maly and graduated from Sauk City High School. He later attended DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago and proudly served the Army in Korea.  Jerry married Dorothy Karls on Sept 6, 1956, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waunakee.

Jerry worked for Wisconsin Bell as an Operations Manager for over 34 years; the last 14 years spent in Milwaukee.  After retirement Jerry and Dorothy returned home to Waunakee.  He was a longstanding member of the Telephone Pioneers, Knights of Columbus and VFW Post 7591 of Madison.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing sheepshead.  One of his most treasured possessions was a colorful piece of concrete from the Berlin Wall which he said was a reminder of the freedom we enjoy in America.  Jerry lived a life of service to others. He volunteered for RSVP and Meals on Wheels, was a diligent blood donor and donated his body to the University of Wisconsin Medical School.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Rita Maier and Theresa Ziegler.  Survivors are his loving wife, Dorothy, daughter Karen (Terry) Emmrich, sons Dean (Lisa) and Curt (Sharon), grandchild Carly (Brandon) and their two daughters, along with step-grandchild Gabrielle and her daughter Payton; brothers Duane and Sil and sister Hy Miller.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 11:00 at Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy Q, Waunakee with visitation from 9:30 until time of services.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, PO Box 259686, Madison, 53725 or St. Jude, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Special thanks to the VA Hospital, Heartland Hospice and Agrace for their excellent and compassionate medical care.
