Gerald "Jerry/Gloomy" Karls

Gerald "Jerry/Gloomy" J Karls, age 61, went peacefully with the Lord on Sunday, February 4, 2024 surrounded by family after a 10 year courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 23, 1962, the son of Roland "Punk" and LouAnn (Kessenich) Karls.

He grew up on the family farm in Dane where he learned the value of hard work. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1981. He worked at Yahara Materials for 39 years where he made many life long friends.

On November 16, 1996, he was united in marriage to Lori Hoyheim. Together they enjoyed Harley riding, gathering with family and friends, spending time with their dogs and traveling to new places.

He is survived by Lori "Loren"; siblings, Ann Plendl, Al (Bonnie), Nancy (Gary) Endres, Mark (Kris), Joe (Roxanne) and Lynn (Torrey) Latham; in-laws Pam (Scott) Mynuk, Darren Hoyheim and Kari Hoyheim; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Arnie and Pat Hoyheim; brothers-in law, Steve Plendl and Brian Hoyheim.

Jerry was the kindest and most caring person that always went out of his way to help others or just to stop and say hi. Those who knew and loved him feel a tremendous loss and already miss him immensely. Our lives will not be the same without him.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, February 12 at 11:00 A.M. at Blessed Trinity Parish, St Michael's, Dane. Inurnment will take place in the church cemetery. At Jerry's request, a celebration of Life will be held following the Mass in the School Hall from 12:30 to 4:00.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at UW Carbone Cancer Center, especially Dr. Noelle LoConte. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carbone Cancer Center
