Gerald “Jerry” Edward Lange, age 80, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024. Jerry was born in Alton, Illinois on July 14, 1944, to Emil “Dick” and Alice (Arnold) Lange. The family moved to Patoka, IL, where his dad had a farm implement business. His love of cars and drag racing was fostered there. He graduated from Southern Illinois University.
In 1968 he moved to Wisconsin and began working at the UW Internal Audit Department and advanced to heading the department until his retirement. He served on the UW Credit Union Audit Committee and continued to volunteer his services to the Credit Union after retirement. Jerry was an avid fan of all Badger athletics, especially hockey, attending 50 years of men’s hockey games as a season ticket holder.
On December 18, 1976, he married Beverly Wolff and they raised a family of three children. He was the most loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. His life revolved around his family, teaching the kids to ski, volunteering as a soccer coach and driving the family on cross country trips. Jerry shared his love of Wisconsin and National Parks, outdoor activities, skiing, photography, camping, traveling, bicycling, hiking, fishing, and relaxing at their Winchester, WI family cabin.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife, Beverly; his children: Sara Lange of Madison, Erik (Meshel) Lange and their daughter, Alice of Oregon, and Mark Lange of Madison ; sisters-in-law, Olga Lange, Janice (Galen) Peterson, Nancy (William) Schmidt. He is further survived by special cousin, Cindy (Darrell) May of Brighton, IL; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Alice; brother Don Lange; and sister-In-law Marilyn Wolff.
The family extends a very special thank you to the staff of Attic Angel Place for their compassionate care given to Jerry.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow.
