Madison - Gerald W. "Jerry" McGee died March 1, 2012, at Meriter Hospital from complications following surgery. Jerry was born June 20, 1933 in Davenport, Iowa. . He graduated from St. Ambrose Academy in Davenport in1954 and St. Ambrose College in 1961. He received a master's degree in English and Education from the UW-Madison in 1967. He taught high school English at Davenport Central High School and Calamus High School, in Calamus, Iowa. Jerry and his family moved to Middleton, Wisconsin in 1964 where he taught English literature and composition at Middleton High School until 1976. In1976 he received another master's degree in Agricultural Journalism from the UW-Madison and served as a program manager in the Ag Journalism Department until his retirement in 1998. Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed reading, fishing and Brewers baseball.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Glen; mother, Aileen,; father, Barney; and son, Flynn. He is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Colin; brothers, Dan (Ann), Dave (Ginny), Rick (Peg), Jack (Susan); sister, Sue (Ken Rose); and many nieces and nephews and his beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Katie and Michael. The world has lost a lovely, gentle man who will live forever in our hearts.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Meriter Hospital for their loving, compassionate care. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rdad, Madison, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Friends are invited to a reception from noon until 2 p.m. at Quivey's Grove Stable following the service.
