Gertrude Ayres

January 30, 1920 — April 30, 2011

Gertrude Mardellle Ayres, 91, left this earthly life on April 30, 2011, and now is with her Lord and Savior. Gertrude was born on January 30, 1920 to John Wesley Lynch and Nellie Anna (Kundert) Lynch on the family farm in Browntown, WI.
After graduating from High School, Gertrude, along with her sister Virginia, moved to Madison to live at the Kennedy Manor and attend Madison Business College, later working as a stenographer at the UW Hospital during the early years of her marriage.
In the midst of WWII, this ""lovely country lass with class"" met and married Judson Ayres, the ""handsome city slicker"" in sergeant's stripes on November 21, 1942 in Columbia, S.C. They began to build a life together in Madison and were blessed with six children - Bruce, Madison; Mardelle, Middleton; Leonard (Mary Jo), Middleton; Paul, Madison; Dorothy, Middleton; Faith, Middleton.
Gertrude thoroughly enjoyed her growing family as grandmother to: Matthew, Taylor (Melissa), Amber (Brian), Wesley (Kristin), Taggart, Russell and Judson. Her next generation of great grandchildren are: Sydney, Tatum, Hudson, Alex, Julian, and Ruby.
Gertrude was always a steady anchor in their tiny home as they raised their family. Her kitchen was warmed not only by her delicious cooking and baking but also with her warm and loving ways, always welcoming those who might stop by. Amidst her busy life she also found time to be creative in many ways: sewing clothes, crocheting, quilting, gardening and reading extensively, including her much-read Bible which formed her entire being.
Gertrude's parents, husband and brother Delbert preceded her in death. In addition to her children and their families she is survived by her sister Virginia of Monroe, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A celebration of Gertrude's life will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI, with visitation from 4 pm until the time of service.
Grateful thanks to Annette from hospice for her great care and compassion. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Madison, WI, 53711.
From your loving family, thank you for the wonderful legacy of your faithful love and prayerful life.
""Ah, that lovely warm smile
That twinkled your eyes and warmed our hearts.
We will feel your spirit always""
