MADISON- Gertrude "Trudy" Laura Starr, age 95 of Madison, passed away on September 10th, 2019 at Skaalen Nursing Center. Trudy was born on a farm in Hampton, WI on Nov. 10, 1923, the daughter of Bert and Edna (Jones) Edwards. Bert was an immigrant from England and Edna was from Columbus, WI.
Trudy went to Columbus High School and graduated in 1940. She also attended business college in Madison. She met her husband, Phillip Starr, after he returned home from the war. The couple were married in Madison, WI in 1949 and had two children, Tom and Tim. Trudy worked at Bank of Madison as a cashier before taking some time to stay home and raise her children. As her children got older, she returned to the workforce in the mid-70's, working at Oakwood Village in Madison.
Trudy and her husband were charter members of the Midvale Lutheran Church and she was a member of the Miriam Circle. She volunteered at the Madison Children's Museum, as well as for the American Girl Company sewing doll clothing. Trudy and her family were famous for their Bridge parties among their large group of life-long friends.
Trudy was very crafty and was known for making outfits and jerseys for not only her children, but for her Troll dolls. She was someone that everyone liked, and she would never say a bad word about anyone. She will be remembered for her eternal optimism and unconditional love to all she met.
