Muskegon, MI - Gery Blake Hammersley, age 56, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2012 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Gery was born on April 22, 1956 in Madison Wisconsin to Robert and June Hammersley.
He married Bonnie (Brewer) on October 21, 1989 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rio, Wisconsin. He lived in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin until 2009 when he moved to Muskegon, Michigan with his wife.
He worked at Madison Cutting Die for 24 years and at Krantz Electric, Verona for 8 years. Upon moving to Muskegon he worked for a short time with Alt Property Management. Gery was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Muskegon. Gery enjoyed spending time on Lake Michigan beaches with his dogs Stella and Shirley.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, a sister Linda Bridwell, his mother-in-law Barbara Brewer, sister-in-laws Beth (Jon) Plast and Beverly (Thomas) Jacobson and brother-in-law Brian (Sandy) Brewer, his nephews; Jeff Bridwell, Joseph Bridwell, Steven Bridwell, Robert Plast, Alex Brewer, Brady Brewer, Chainey Brewer, nieces; Julia (Henry Hamer) Jacobson, Rachel Plast, Molly Brewer, Bailey Brewer, a great-nephew Kaiden Hamer and a special cousin Sharon Topp as well as Edie and Hammersley relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and June Hammersley.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 10, 2012 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, Wisconsin with Rev. Dr. David J. Berggren, from Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Sun Prairie officiating. A visitation will be held at Cress on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 4 pm -7pm and again an hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A memorial service will held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Muskegon, Michigan at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Hospice. The family of Gery wishes to thank Physician Assistants' Jessica and Heidi of Mercy Health Partners Pain Clinic, and Pastor Karen from Our Saviors Lutheran for their persistence and compassion during his illness.
