Stoughton- Gladys L. Holtan, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, November 1, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was born at the family home, near Rockdale, on October 13, 1914, a daughter of the late Halvor and Clara (Eide) Hanson. Gladys married Austin Holtan on February 5, 1935, in Rockford Illinois, and together they farmed in the Utica area their whole life. She was a lifetime member of West Koshkonong Lutheran Church and a member of the Utica Circle, Quilters of the Church, and Ladies Aid. Her family was her whole life, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and reading. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Richard) Kreuger of Cottage Grove; her son, Richard (Susan) Holtan of Las Vegas, Nevada; a special friend, Patty (nee Hvam) Strasburg of Stoughton; six grandchildren, Kris (Stacy) Joannes, Lisa Holtan, Dale Kreuger, Michael (Kristine) Kreuger, Susan (Jeffrey) Bush, all of the Stoughton area, and Julie (Jon) Skjolaas of New Orleans, Louisiana; nine great-grandchildren, Michael, Alexander, Megan, Mackenzie, Mika, Orin, Austin, Abby, and Nicholas: and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Austin; and her brother, Jerrold Hanson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 11:00 am at West Koshkonong Lutheran Church, 1911 Koshkonong Rd., Stoughton, with the Rev. Richard Dowling officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, November 5^th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, and again at church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service. The family would like to thank the staff of Harbor House in Stoughton for all their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the steeple restoration at West Koshkonong Lutheran Church of Stoughton.
